Preparations for the 2026 Enem exam in Brazil have progressed with the release of official resources by Inep (Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Anísio Teixeira). Inep has published the official 2026 writing guide (Cartilha de Redação), which outlines five evaluation competencies worth up to 200 points each. Candidates must produce a dissertative-argumentative text between seven and 30 lines that includes a social intervention proposal respecting human rights. To promote inclusivity, adapted versions of the guide have been provided for students with dyslexia, autism, or hearing impairments. The document also warns against the use of “repertórios de bolso” (memorized, generic references). Inep has further clarified the criteria for receiving a zero score on the essay. Disqualifying factors include total deviation from the theme, failure to follow the required format, leaving the sheet blank, or writing fewer than seven handwritten lines (or ten for Braille). Additionally, candidates may receive a zero for using insults, drawings, symbols, or disconnected elements such as political messages or songs, as well as for identifying themselves outside the designated space. As of late September 2026, the Ministry of Education (MEC) and Inep have confirmed that 5,055,818 applicants have registered for the exam. The schedule is set for November 8 and 15, 2026. On the first day, November 8, candidates will be tested on Languages, Human Sciences, and the essay, which includes five questions in a chosen foreign language (English or Spanish). On the second day, November 15, the exam will cover Natural Sciences and Mathematics. For both dates, gates open at 12:00 and close strictly at 13:00 (Brasília time). While specific testing locations have not yet been released, Inep will provide this information via has advised candidates to monitor the Participant Page and their Gov.br accounts for the release of the Confirmation of Enrollment Card on the Participant Page. Card, which will contain specific testing addresses.
