In early July, July 2024, Brazilian authorities announced two separate homicide cases in the states of Rondônia and Minas Gerais. By the end of the that month, the scope of the violence had broadened, with investigations into expanded to three additional killings in different parts of the country: a fatal shooting in the Nova Brasília neighborhood of Teresina, a stabbing death in Teresina (Piauí), Nova Lima’s Campo Grande district, Lima (Minas Gerais) and a grocery‑store stabbing in the town of Luís Gomes, Rio Gomes (Rio Grande do Norte. Norte). Police continue to pursue suspects and determine motives across these unrelated incidents, highlighting a pattern of isolated but concurrent violent crimes throughout Brazil. In July 2026, further homicides were recorded. In Teresina’s Parque Poty neighbourhood (Piauí), a 69‑year‑old man was stabbed to death after refusing to pay for a drink; the attacker has not been identified. The same state saw a double fatality in Santa Rosa do Piauí when a shooter killed a man before turning the gun on himself. In Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, a 25‑year‑old was fatally stabbed under unclear motives. In Luís Gomes, Rio Grande do Norte, a man was killed with a knife inside a rural grocery store; a 26‑year‑old suspect was identified on video and remains at large. Investigations remain ongoing, reinforcing the persistent occurrence of isolated violent crimes across Brazil.
