In late July and early August 2026, Brazil's states of Bahia and Minas Gerais initiated new rural road paving efforts. Bahia announced a public tender for a 42 km stretch linking BR-030 to the Espraiado district, while Entre Rios de Minas began paving rural hills using low-cost stone-paving techniques. Regional leaders in Mato Grosso and Paraná also pushed for infrastructure acceleration, specifically regarding the Estrada Selene project and the BR-163 corridor. Maintenance and expansion projects in Minas Gerais intensified through August and September. Concessionaires EPR Vias do Café and EPR Via Mineira have been conducting extensive conservation works. EPR Vias do Café performed pavement milling, reconstruction, and signaling on MGC-491, BR-265, MG-167, BR-146, and MGC-369, occasionally utilizing ‘stop and go’ traffic systems. MGC-369. EPR Via Mineira has focused on pavement requalification and safety device installation on the BR-040 between Belo Horizonte and Juiz de Fora, with works distributed across the Metropolitan, Central, Campo das Vertentes, and Zona da Mata regions. On the BR-040, duplication project activities have progressed to include vegetation removal near the Profeta Viaduct and in Congonhas. Fora. Additionally, the EPR group launched road safety and awareness initiatives in Minas Gerais and Paraná for National Traffic Week through its Conviver Program. These campaigns focus on speed limits and seat belt usage, noting that 42.3% of fatal accident victims were not wearing seat belts. Meanwhile, EPR Sul de Minas continues its R$4 million project to construct two new U-turn devices on the BR-459, expected to be completed by early 2027. As of late September 2026, EPR Via Mineira has commenced the first stage of duplication works on the BR-040 in Congonhas, Minas Gerais. This construction is concentrated between kilometers 602 and 612, involving mechanized cleaning, earthmoving, drainage installation, and vegetation removal authorized by Ibama. The long-term goal is to transform the section into a divided highway with shoulders, marginal roads, and pedestrian infrastructure. Concurrently, data from EPR Via Mineira revealed that the BR-040 recorded 449,874 speeding violations between January and August 2026. Notable incidents included a vehicle recorded at 192 km/h in a 100 km/h zone in Nova Lima and a 265 percent speed excess in Juiz de Fora. In response, the concessionaire is conducting educational campaigns through September 25 to promote road safety.
