In late May 2026 the STJD opened two disciplinary procedures involving Série A clubs. Vitória and Botafogo were cited for arriving five minutes late to their match on 23 May, with a joint hearing set for 28 May. A week later the tribunal added charges from the Vitória‑vs‑Palmeiras match on 29 May, denouncing Palmeiras midfielder Maurício for an elbow on Vitória defender Cacá and also charging Vitória’s Cacá, Luan Cândido and president Fábio Mota. The hearing was scheduled for early August. On 1 August the STJD formally issued the denunciation against Maurício under article 254, confirming a possible one‑to‑six‑match suspension. Simultaneously Flamengo released a note ~~alleging systematic VAR bias in Palmeiras’s favour,~~ citing 65 ~~favorable~~ VAR interventions in Palmeiras’s favour since 2020 and a net +18 ~~balance since 2020.~~ balance, alleging systematic bias. Palmeiras president Leila Pereira dismissed the claim as ~~absurd, while Vitória called~~ “absurd”, and coach Abel Ferreira echoed the ~~referee’s decision a grave error.~~ rebuke, invoking the controversial 2025 Libertadores final as an “asterisk”.
