The Brazilian Navy is advancing its Tamandaré-class frigate program through several key milestones. The Mariz e Barros (F203), the fourth vessel and final unit of the first batch, has begun construction with its keel laying. This vessel is scheduled for launch in 2027 and delivery by 2029. Concurrently, the Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201) has entered the sea acceptance testing phase. This second unit of the class is undergoing performance evaluations of its propulsion, automation, and safety systems to prepare for a projected delivery in the first half of 2027. The program aims to strengthen domestic defense capabilities and maintain specialized industrial momentum. In August 2026, the Navy addressed social media reports regarding the first vessel of the class, the Tamandaré (F200). Following rumors of structural damage, such as a “crack in the flight deck” or issues related to helicopter weight, the Fleet Command in Niterói issued a denial. The Navy clarified that the vessel is in “normal operation with no degradation of its operational capabilities” and is continuing its first international mission as part of the Fraterno XXXIX combined exercise alongside the Argentine Navy.
