In late July 2026 Brazil’s transport authorities announced a series of short‑term traffic disruptions on major routes. CCR‑Motiva said the northbound Express lane of the Viaduto Hélio Smidt on the Via Dutra in Guarulhos would be closed each night from 22:00 to 06:00 on July 31, August 1 and August 2 for maintenance, with drivers rerouted to nearby highways. The state traffic agency CET‑Rio detailed closures for the Desafio da Ponte 2026 cycling race on the Rio‑Niterói Bridge. Two lanes in each direction were shut from the night of August 1, a third lane added early on August 2, while a single lane remained open for vehicles. Access streets on both sides of the bridge were blocked, and traffic was to be restored by midday on August 2. Municipal authorities also closed Rua Professor Plínio Leite and other central streets in Niterói, imposing partial lane bans and coordinating signals. On July 31 the Rio de Janeiro municipal government announced additional traffic operations linked to several sporting events, including the Corrida das Preciosas in Bangu and the Circuito RJ 2026 race, which closed key avenues and the Aterro do Flamengo area. On 1 August 2026 the Subprefecture of Zona Sul, under the Projeto Rio em Ordem initiative, removed 78 traffic cones that had been illegally used to block public parking spaces in the Botafogo, Flamengo and Catete neighborhoods. The operation, carried out with the municipal guard and the Secretaria de Ordem Pública, targeted streets such as Sorocaba, Dona Mariana and Rua do Catete, aiming to prevent unlawful reservation of public space and to keep the urban environment organized. On 2 August 2026 the Desafio da Ponte half‑marathon was run across the Rio‑Niterói bridge.
