Brazilian Army soldier disappearance and arrest
Overview
On October 17, 2026, Pedro Gabriel Bezerra, a 20-year-old Brazilian Army soldier, went missing from the 7th Supply Depot in Recife, Pernambuco, while performing sentinel duties. He left the military unit with a 7.62 mm caliber rifle and 20 rounds of ammunition.
The Nordeste Military Command opened a Military Police Inquiry to investigate the disappearance and the loss of equipment. On October 21, Bezerra surrendered to police in Paulista. His defense attorney stated that the soldier presented himself without the weapon or ammunition, claiming to have experienced “memory lapses” regarding the incident.
Reports indicate the soldier decided to surrender following social media appeals from his mother and the arrest of his pregnant girlfriend, who is suspected of assisting his escape. Bezerra is currently being held at the 4th Army Police Battalion, while authorities continue efforts to recover the missing firearm and ammunition.
