The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) has initiated legal actions against artificial intelligence platforms to prevent the unauthorized practice of law. In São Paulo, the OAB-SP filed a civil public action against the legaltech startup Enter. The association seeks to restrict the company from selling agentic AI services directly to large corporations, requesting that its solutions be limited to law firms. The OAB-SP argues the technology is being used to replace legal professionals rather than support them, and has requested that Enter be prohibited from linking service contracts to specific legal outcomes. In Rio de Janeiro, the OABRJ secured a federal court ruling against the platform Resolve Juizado. Following an appeal by the OABRJ, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) prohibited the platform from charging fees for automated legal petitions generated by AI without lawyer involvement. The OABRJ contended that offering such services constitutes the illegal practice of law and poses a threat to public order and citizenship, arguing that selling documents without professional oversight may mislead citizens into believing they are receiving proper legal guidance. The legal dispute regarding Resolve Juizado, which began in April 2025, concluded with the court prohibiting the platform from charging its R$ 20 fee for petitions provided without the participation of a lawyer.
