Overview

The Brazilian citrus industry continues to face significant economic and environmental challenges. Producers in the Triângulo Mineiro region, spanning Minas Gerais and São Paulo, have struggled with reduced yields stemming from extended droughts, high temperatures, and the spread of the ‘dragão amarelo’ disease. By the 2026/27 harvest period, market dynamics have maintained pressure on the sector. Orange production is estimated at 250 million boxes, while prices remain constrained by slow global demand and high retail costs in the United States and Europe. Although industrial orange prices in Brazil rose from R$ 25 to R$ 31 per box between May and August, these levels have remained below production costs for many growers. Furthermore, frozen concentrated orange juice futures in New York have traded near 2022 lows.
