Following recent election losses where the Democratic Labour Party (PDT) failed to meet the electoral threshold, the party initiated discussions regarding its organizational future. On October 14, the party announced a national convention to consider a merger, incorporation, or the formation of a political federation to regain access to the electoral fund and free media airtime. By November 3, the PDT decided to proceed with forming a political federation with four other parties: PSB, Avante, PRD, and Solidariedade. Federal Deputy Pompeo de Mattos stated the move is intended to ensure institutional survival for at least four years while maintaining individual party identities. The group aims to formalize this union before the end of the year. As political maneuvering intensifies ahead of the February 2027 elections for the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, the PDT continues its efforts to form this federation. This strategy is intended to help the party bypass the electoral barrier and preserve access to party funds and leadership positions.
