In September 2026, Brazilian educational authorities managed several administrative processes. The National Institute for Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep) initiated a review period for the 2026 Basic Education School Census, allowing municipal, state, and Federal District schools to consult initial enrollment data via the EducaCenso system to identify inconsistencies. Concurrently, the Ministry of Education (MEC) announced the schedule for the Fies 2026/2 selection process to fill remaining higher education vacancies. By late September, the MEC detailed specific requirements for participating institutions, which must offer at least six vacancies per course, shift, and location, and maintain valid adherence to the Fies Guarantee Fund (FG-Fies). Private higher education institutions were required to formalize their participation via the Sisfies system by October 7. To participate, institutions must electronically sign an adhesion term using a Gov.br login and provide details regarding the number of vacancies and tuition values. Following this, a period for institutions to rectify their participation terms was scheduled from October 8 to October 14. For students, free registration for the program is set to run from October 26 to November 3 through the Unified Access Portal. Eligible candidates must have participated in the Enem from 2010 onwards, achieving a minimum average of 450 points and a non-zero essay score, while maintaining a gross monthly per capita family income of up to three minimum wages. Under the Fies Social modality, 50% of the remaining vacancies are reserved for low-income students registered in CadÚnico, who must have a per capita income of up to half a minimum wage. Results for the single call are expected on November 16.
