As Independence Day on September 7 arrived, Brazil proceeded with its planned civic-military parades and cultural events. In Brasília, spectators including tourists, local residents, and former military personnel gathered in the early morning hours at the Esplanada dos Ministérios to secure viewing spots. Attendees included individuals traveling long distances, such as a retiree from Tocantinópolis, and families from the capital’s outskirts. Across various municipalities, civic parades were held with diverse local themes. In Balneário Camboriú, the Barra district parade featured students and security forces under the theme ‘Balneário Camboriú: respect and citizenship build the future’. In Garopaba, celebrations centered on environmental education, honoring the 100th anniversary of environmentalist José Lutzenberger and marking 25 years of a local environmental awareness program. In Cáceres, approximately 7,000 people gathered on Avenida 7 de Setembro for a traditional civic-military parade. The ceremony included a military troop review led by Mayor Eliene Liberato Dias, alongside representatives from the Brazilian Army and Navy. Municipal schools participated by showcasing pedagogical projects, and musical performances included a fanfare from the Escola Municipal Novo Oriente that utilized instruments made from recycled materials. These festivities occurred alongside the previously anticipated political demonstrations and the 32nd ‘Grito dos Excluídos’, which focused on social justice and land rights across 24 states.
