Discussions regarding the elimination of the IPVA (Motor Vehicle Property Tax) for professional drivers have emerged at both the state and federal levels in Brazil. In Pernambuco, gubernatorial candidate João Campos pledged to eliminate the tax for ride-hailing drivers to address professional demands. During meetings with drivers, concerns were also raised regarding security, infrastructure, and technological support. At the federal level, Deputy Santin Roveda has proposed a national initiative to exempt both taxi and ride-hailing drivers from the IPVA. Roveda argues that because these vehicles are essential tools for work, reducing the tax burden will increase the disposable income of working families. Roveda, a former president of Detran-PR, has a history of supporting tax reductions, including previous efforts to reduce IPVA rates in Paraná and exempting motorcycles up to 170cc. On a regional level, Daniel Messac (Mobiliza) has proposed expanding motorcycle tax exemptions within the state legislature. This proposal seeks to increase the current exemption threshold from 150cc to 160cc to align with modern engine standards and provide support for delivery workers and mototaxistas.
