Pensioners and retirees in different Brazilian regions are undergoing mandatory ‘Prova de Vida’ (life proof) procedures to maintain their benefits. In Rio de Janeiro, Rioprevidência beneficiaries must complete annual validation by November 2 to prevent payment suspension. The process involves approximately 230,000 individuals and can be completed digitally via facial recognition on the Gov.br app or through service centers. In João Pessoa, the Municipal Pension Institute (IPM-JP) conducts monthly verifications for approximately 8,017 beneficiaries, consisting of 6,386 retirees and 1,631 pensioners. The Superintendent Caroline Agra noted that the institute performs an average of 350 updates per month. To facilitate the process, the IPM-JP utilizes WhatsApp notifications to alert beneficiaries during their birth month and month. For individuals with limited mobility or those who are bedridden, the institute provides home visits by social workers for those with mobility limitations or upon the presentation of a medical report confirming incapacity.
