Journalist Xico Sá has released a book titled “O ‘O tesoureiro: o esquema de corrupção, a fuga espetacular e a morte de PC ~~Farias,”~~ Farias,’ which chronicles the life and death of Paulo César Farias. Farias, the former treasurer for President Fernando Collor, was involved in a 1996 double homicide in Maceió that remains unresolved. The book details his escape through various countries and the corruption scandals of the 1990s. Sá provides insights into the political influence Farias held during the Collor presidency and his ambitions to establish a powerful political clan in Alagoas. Notably, the author challenges the official version of Farias’s 1996 death, suggesting the crime scene was tampered with and that the investigation may have been a coordinated effort between police and politicians to facilitate a ‘queima de arquivo’ (silencing of a witness). The work also recounts Sá’s personal role in locating Farias in London in 1993. In addition to Sá’s work, legal scholar Joaquim Falcão has released “A ‘A Oligarquia dos Poderes e a crise da ~~Democracia.”~~ Democracia.’ Falcão’s book critiques Brazilian democratic institutions, specifically addressing a ~~“kinship oligarchy”~~ ‘kinship oligarchy’ and alleging that the Supreme Federal Court has seen instances where judicial impartiality was compromised by personal or family interests.
