Brazilian rare earth mining developments

Overview

The Brazilian rare earth sector has seen significant commercial activity involving major project developments and acquisitions.

In July 2026, Harvest Minerals entered a binding agreement to acquire Scanty Mineração Ltda, a developer holding eight rare-earth projects across 27 exploration tenements in Brazil. The deal, which included cash payments and the issuance of new shares, aimed to expand Harvest’s portfolio within the Poços de Caldas Alkaline Complex and the Bahia Rare Earth Province.

By August 2026, Brazilian Rare Earths released a scoping study for its Rocha da Rocha project in Bahia. The study reported an after-tax net present value of US$7.9 billion, driven by the high-grade Monte Alto deposit. The project plans to utilize a hub-and-spoke model, with mine-site beneficiation feeding into centralized processing at the Camaçari Petrochemical Complex to produce neodymium-praseodymium oxide and heavy rare earth concentrate.
