The 2026 Brazilian Robotics Olympiad (OBR) is conducting regional stages across Rio de Janeiro state. In Petrópolis, the competition held at Shopping Pátio Petrópolis involves over 400 students from 80 teams, aged 6 to 19, ~~competing~~ from both public and private schools. Participants compete in theoretical written exams and practical ~~modalities such as~~ modalities, including Rescue ~~Robotics and~~ Robotics—where autonomous robots simulate disaster victim rescue—and Artistic ~~Robotics.~~ Robotics, which integrates robots into performances such as theater or dance. This stage serves as a qualifier for the state stage in Volta Redonda and the national ~~finals.~~ finals in João Pessoa. Winners of the national competition will earn the opportunity to represent Brazil at the RoboCup World in Nuremberg, Germany, in 2027. Following this, the regional stage commenced in Maricá at the Maricá Beach Arena. This event features over 200 students from 74 municipal teams. Local officials noted that approximately 50 municipal school units in the area have integrated robotics and computational thinking into their curricula.
