Poison frontman Bret Michaels underwent emergency surgery to remove a complicated obstructing kidney stone after performing three consecutive shows in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Spokane, Washington, while in intense pain. During the procedure, doctors placed a ureteral stent. Due to the stent, his Type 1 diabetes, and a pre-existing lower-back compression fracture, medical professionals initially advised avoiding live performances for three to four weeks to prevent infection, severe pain, or stent displacement. This led to the postponement of eleven tour dates in July and August, and the rescheduling of his August 12 Indiana State Fair concert to 2027. While Michaels attempted a return to the stage with a comeback performance at The Bowl in Sugar Hill, Georgia, on August 21, medical professionals have since determined he requires an extended period of rest. Consequently, Michaels has canceled the remainder of his 2026 tour to focus on medical recovery. This hiatus includes missing upcoming engagements such as Tennessee’s Mountain Music Festival and the Canfield Fair in Ohio. Doctors, including Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, noted concerns that summer heat and humidity could negatively impact his blood sugar levels during the healing process. Michaels expressed gratitude to his fans on social media, stating, “I may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have,” and vowed to return to the stage in the future. The Michaels Entertainment Group stated they are currently focusing on his ability to return to full health and strength, looking toward a potential return in 2027. 2027 or 2028.
