Brisbane 2032 Olympic venue development

In late July 2026 Brisbane's preparations for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games moved forward on two fronts. A giant OMEGA countdown clock was installed in the city’s Queen Street Mall, symbolising the six‑year lead‑up. The Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) announced that a consortium of ARM Architecture, NH Architecture and Arkhefield, with aquatic specialist Liquid Blu, had been chosen to design the new National Aquatic Centre, which will incorporate the heritage‑listed Centenary Pool. Early works on the Brisbane Stadium were awarded, and four contractors were shortlisted for the Aquatic Centre, with a preferred builder to be named in early 2027.

A few days later the detailed design of the Aquatic Centre was released, confirming its role as a competition venue, national training hub and community asset, and confirming it as one of 17 new or upgraded facilities in the Brisbane 2032 Delivery Plan. Parallel legacy projects in co‑host city Ipswich were highlighted, including upgrades to Brighton Homes Arena and a proposal for a $20 million tartan track, underscoring the Games’ expected lasting benefits for sport, tourism and employment.
