British Columbia is addressing road safety through both long-term policy development and driver education initiatives. The provincial government is currently drafting a new road safety strategy intended to guide initiatives through 2030, with a scheduled publication date in late 2026. The Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) has facilitated virtual engagement sessions for local government representatives to provide feedback on the strategy. In conjunction with broader safety efforts, the ICBC provides digital resources, such as road sign practice tests, to help drivers—including new, experienced, and senior drivers—refresh their knowledge of various traffic signs and improve overall road safety. Drivers can further utilize the ‘Learn to Drive Smart’ provincial driving guide to help identify signs they are most likely to encounter. While many traffic signs in the province are specific to certain locations, road users, or traffic types, these resources assist drivers in familiarizing themselves with the signs relevant to their needs.
