Gergely Őrsi, the mayor of Budapest’s II. District, has been involved in remains central to a corruption investigation concerning the Óbuda area. The Central Investigative Chief Prosecutor’s Office alleges that an entrepreneur managing a park maintenance company paid bribes exceeding 2 billion forints to various municipal leaders and political figures between 2011 and 2024 to secure contracts. While in pre-trial detention since June, Őrsi was denied permission to participate in vocational training for construction. He has denied all allegations, describing the suspicions as “entirely unfounded.” In late September, a court overturned Őrsi’s detention, placing him under criminal supervision with electronic monitoring. Other figures released under similar supervision include former mayor Zsolt Láng, former MSZP MP Zsolt Molnár, and Momentum politicians Tünde Szkaliczki and Károly Matisz, as well as the leader of the Hungast Group. The investigation, which involves the National Asset Recovery and Asset Protection Office (NVVH), continues to examine suspected bribery related to public procurement for catering and park maintenance services.
