Budapest’s city council has introduced a series of transport pricing measures. In mid‑2026 the municipality announced that all on‑street parking meters will be removed and that drivers must use mobile‑payment apps starting in July 2026. A month later, the council approved a revision of taxi tariffs that raises the basic fare, kilometre and minute rates and adds an 800 HUF surcharge for trips to or from Liszt Ferenc International Airport. The council voted 19‑0‑10 to enact the changes, ~~justified by three years of inflation,~~ which take effect on 1 August 2026. The basic fare rises from 1,100 HUF to 1,300 HUF, the kilometre charge from 440 HUF to 521 HUF and the per‑minute charge from 110 HUF to 130 HUF, while the airport surcharge lifts the base fare for airport trips to 2,100 HUF. The revised tariffs are expected to ~~increase~~ push the cost of a typical five‑kilometre ride ~~by roughly 660~~ to around 4,300 HUF, up from about 3,630 HUF.
