Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen

Overview

In mid‑July 2026, the Buffalo Bills began reshaping their offense around quarterback Josh Allen, promoting Joe Brady as offensive coordinator and adding wide receiver DJ Moore. Following the dismissal of Sean McDermott, Brady was promoted to head coach to provide stability. To support Allen, the front office restructured his contract to create $40 million in cap space and secured an extension for center Connor McGovern.

Former players Jordan Poyer and Paul Posluszny offered support in late August, with Poyer calling Allen “the best quarterback in the game” and Posluszny citing his elite size and speed. As the season progressed, Allen became a betting favorite for the NFL MVP award. After a dominant two-week start featuring nine total touchdowns, his odds improved to +275.

By mid-October, with the Bills holding a 4-1 record, Allen remained the MVP betting leader at +240 odds, leading contenders such as Brock Purdy and Patrick Mahomes. However, despite recording 1,249 passing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, he faced scrutiny over ball security. Former player Cris Carter noted that Allen had thrown four interceptions through the first five games, drawing comparisons to the turnover criticisms faced by Brett Favre and emphasizing the need for the primary playmaker to minimize mistakes.
