The GERB-SDS political party in Bulgaria has transitioned to a stance of critical opposition against the administration of Rumen Radev. Deputy Toma Bikov announced that the party would no longer maintain a constructive opposition role, characterizing the current government as “transitional, rather than a reformist government” that prioritizes narrow party goals over structural national changes. Following this shift, the party has raised allegations of executive interference regarding the Bulgarian National Audit Office. The dispute involves claims made by Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Shishkov regarding a completed an extraordinary audit of the Road Infrastructure Agency. However, Agency (API) covering the period from January 1, 2020, to May 30, 2026. While Shishkov presented data on September 9 as the result of a completed audit—citing certificates for over one billion leva for 2025—the National Audit Office stated has maintained that the audit is still ongoing and not due for completion until late September. September 30. MP Temenuzhka Petkova has described alleged that the governing majority has attempted to dictate specific findings and conclusions to the auditors, which she argues violates principles of objectivity and independence. Describing the situation as a risk to financial stability and indicated the integrity of public finances, GERB-SDS has announced plans to notify several national and international institutions, including the European Commission and Commission, the European Court of Auditors.
