The Bulgarian labor market has shown signs of stabilization and shifting sectoral demand. In early October, the Employment Agency announced a series of 27 job fairs across the country to connect job seekers with employers, following a 14% increase in requested vacancies in August. At that time, the registered unemployment rate was reported at 5.47%. By September, market analysis indicated a period of stagnation, with job advertisements remaining nearly flat compared to August. While annual job postings have decreased by approximately 9.5% compared to the previous year, specific sectors have shown divergent trends. The IT sector experienced a significant year-on-year decline of about 22%, whereas trade, sales, marketing, and human resources saw growth. The hospitality sector also experienced a decline, which analysts attributed to the end of the summer season. Recent data from October indicates a sustained cooling trend, with September vacancies falling 9.5% year-on-year, representing roughly 3,600 fewer positions. This decline follows previous drops in June and July. Contributing factors include economic stagnation in Germany, rising fuel costs, and regional conflict uncertainty. While the impact of artificial intelligence is currently noted in IT, administration, and outsourcing, it remains a limited factor. Sectoral declines have also been observed in manufacturing and accounting. Despite the reduction in postings, the unemployment rate remains low, sitting below 4%. The Ministry of Finance expects nominal wage growth to slow to 8.5% in 2026. Experts from the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry note that a labor shortage persists, prompting some employers to hire workers from third countries.
