Bulgarian presidential visits to religious monasteries
Overview
Bulgarian President Iliana Yotova has conducted visits to major religious sites to observe ecclesiastical traditions and heritage.
In mid-August, the President attended the patronal feast at the Troyan Monastery ‘Assumption of the Mother of God’. The event included a liturgy led by Bishop Vasiliy of Dragoviti and a procession featuring the ‘Three-Handed Icon’ of the Mother of God. During this visit, President Yotova discussed the potential for displaying monastery relics in a museum to promote heritage awareness.
Later in the month, the President visited the Bachkovo Monastery to mark the conclusion of the 12th Iconography Exhibition. Accompanied by Abbot Bishop Sionios of Veliki, she viewed the icon of the Panagia of Bachkovo and the relics of Saint Patriarch Evtimiy of Tarnovo. The President noted the importance of ecclesiastical art in maintaining Bulgaria’s spiritual and national identity.
