Burger King is implementing a major overhaul of its chicken nugget menu in the United States, effective September 1. The update is a response to consumer complaints that previously described the product as “rubbery,” “dry,” and “disappointing.” The new recipe will utilize utilizes 100 percent white meat, a revised marinade for improved juiciness, and a crispier breading. To enhance the dining experience and maintain product temperature, the company is also replacing nugget bags with cardboard clamshell boxes. This menu reinvention follows a period of strong financial performance for the chain. In the second quarter of 2026, Burger King reported an 8.5 percent increase in comparable US sales, which outperforming McDonald’s 0.8 percent growth and Wendy’s 7 percent decline. This growth allowed the company to surpass Wendy's Wendy’s as the second-largest burger chain in the country by system sales. According to Chief Marketing Officer Joel Yashinsky, the company is focusing on both menu innovation and upgrading core items, following a recent update to the Whopper that introduced a new bun and creamier mayonnaise.
