Busta Rhymes has released ‘Dillagence 2’, II’, his twelfth studio album, constructed from an archive of nearly 300 unreleased beats left by the late producer J Dilla prior to his death in 2006. The project was made possible with the involvement and approval of Dilla’s mother, Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancey. The 19-track album features a diverse roster of guest artists, including Lil Wayne, Talib Kweli, Anderson .Paak, Ludacris, Big Sean, Common, and Common. A notable highlight is the track Honey Bxby. Notable tracks include ‘This Woman’, which features a posthumous collaboration with D’Angelo. This track utilizes D’Angelo utilizing a 20-year-old scratch vocal from a session recorded by Dilla vocal, ‘Wait 4 U’ featuring Big Sean and D’Angelo approximately 20 years ago that had remained uncompleted. Honey Bxby, ‘Kingpin [Knock Ya Head Off]’ featuring Ludacris and Anderson .Paak, and ‘Talk Ya Shit’ featuring Lil Wayne. Busta Rhymes has been meticulously assembling these unreleased beats since 2020. Moving away from contemporary hip-hop trends designed for streaming playlists, the project focuses on Dilla’s signature production aesthetic, characterized by complex loops, unconventional grooves, and his unique, non-quantized style. The release follows the original ‘Dillagence’ mixtape from 2007 and the single ‘SPAZZZ’.
