Cade Cavalli has delivered consecutive shutout performances for the Washington Nationals. On August 13, Cavalli pitched eight innings with 10 strikeouts in a 7-0 victory against the Chicago Cubs, nearly achieving a no-hitter before a single in the seventh inning ended the bid. The Nationals' offense was supported by a three-run home run from Abimelec Ortiz. Following this, Cavalli led the Nationals to a 6-0 shutout against the Texas Rangers in Arlington. He recorded 11 strikeouts over six innings, improving his season record to 11-5. This win ended a four-game losing streak for Washington, supported by offensive contributions from José Tena and Andrés Chaparro. In a subsequent matchup against the Rangers, Texas pitcher Jacob deGrom reached a career milestone by becoming the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to record 2,000 strikeouts, achieving the mark in his 272nd career game. During that game, deGrom pitched six shutout innings with ten strikeouts, allowing only one hit. DeGrom became the 95th pitcher in MLB history to reach the 2,000 strikeout mark, doing so in his 1,661st career inning. His achievement places him second all-time in speed to reach the milestone by both games played and innings pitched, trailing only Randy Johnson in games (262) and Chris Sale in innings (1,626). Despite facing recent injury challenges, including a second Tommy John surgery, deGrom’s career includes two NL Cy Young Awards and a 2023 World Series championship.
