A vehicle struck a crowd near the Caen train station in Normandy, France, on a Wednesday night between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM. The incident resulted in at least one death and approximately a dozen injuries. Several victims, including four in critical condition, are reported to be foreign nationals from countries such as Afghanistan, Egypt, and Bangladesh. Authorities are investigating whether the attack was intentional, noting that the incident may have been preceded by an altercation in a nearby bar. A 26-year-old man of Russian origin, driving a black BMW, fled the scene but was later arrested in Ouistreham, approximately 15 to 20 kilometers north of Caen. While the driver was known to police for traffic violations, he was not known to intelligence services. The prosecutor has opened an investigation for murder and intentional violence with a weapon. However, officials stated there is currently “no evidence of a terrorist motive.” The Calvados prefecture has secured the area as the investigation continues.
