Following the contentious first leg in Nigeria, MC Alger completed a historic comeback to eliminate Enugu Rangers from the CAF Champions League. Despite Rangers holding a 2-0 advantage from the initial match, the Algerian side secured a 3-0 victory in the second leg at the Ali La Pointe Stadium, winning 3-2 on aggregate. Prior to the second leg, MC Alger faced significant injury challenges, with key players Mohamed Benkhemassa, Merouane Khelif, and Ben Ahmed Kohili sidelined. Despite these setbacks, the team secured the necessary result to progress. After a scoreless first half, Chahreddine Boukholda scored in the 58th minute to begin the comeback. Although Rangers goalkeeper Destiny Abuchi saved a penalty from Mohamed Bangoura in the 70th minute, Bangoura scored in the 84th minute to level the aggregate score. Soufiane Bayazid scored a stoppage-time goal in the 90+2nd minute to finalize the win. The result eliminates Rangers International and leaves Nigeria without a representative in the competition's group stage, as both Rangers and Rivers United have been knocked out. This victory provides a significant boost for MC Alger coach Khaled Ben Yahia, who had faced pressure regarding his position following the first-leg defeat. The win also mirrors a similar comeback achieved by MC Alger against the same opponent in 1976. The second leg follows a period of significant tension between the clubs. Rangers had previously petitioned CAF regarding alleged vandalism and supporter unrest during the first leg in Abeokuta, while MC Alger had issued communiqués rejecting those claims, disputing officiating decisions, and reporting harassment of their delegation. In response to these tensions, the CAF Disciplinary Committee has scheduled a video conference hearing to investigate the security incidents and reported events from the first-leg match in Nigeria. The committee intends to review video evidence and hear from team representatives to determine if sanctions are necessary.
