The wildfire near Ryvoan Bothy in the Cairngorms National Park, which began on 15 July, has devastated approximately 25 sq km of land. Throughout late July and early August, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) deployed more than 500 firefighters, supported by helicopters, heavy machinery, and thermal-imaging drones used twice daily to locate hotspots. By early August, authorities began a staged reduction of cordons around the Glenmore area. This allowed participants of the Refuel event at Badaguish to pass the Coylumbridge checkpoint from 4 August. While the emergency cordon was expected to be lifted in mid-August pending multi-agency agreement, Highland Council and Forestry and Land Scotland worked on management plans for reopening forest paths, bike trails, and roads. On 18 August, the SFRS announced that firefighting operations had concluded after nearly five weeks of activity. Crews have left the scene and handed areas back to the RSPB. However, officials warned that certain locations remain hazardous due to the risk of falling trees and unstable ground. The RSPB noted that staff continue to work on extinguishing scattered hotspots within certain parts of the reserve. ~~Following~~ In the ~~incident,~~ aftermath, Scottish officials and fire services have called for enhanced prevention measures and a dedicated national wildfire response unit.
