Cairo International Airport experienced significant growth in passenger traffic and flight volume during August and September 2026. Total passenger numbers for this period reached 6,009,356, an increase of 435,938 passengers and 3,530 flights compared to the same period in 2025. In August 2026, the airport handled 3,133,767 passengers, representing a 9% year-on-year increase in passengers and an 11% increase in flights. September 2026 saw 2,875,589 passengers, a 6% increase in passengers and a 7% increase in flights compared to September 2025. Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny stated that this growth reflects rising travel demand and necessitates continued capacity expansion. The To address rising demand and prevent capacity bottlenecks, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is currently constructing Terminal 4, which is expected to have an annual capacity of 40 million passengers. The broader strategic expansion plan aims to increase the total capacity of Cairo International Airport to approximately 70 million passengers per year to support Egypt’s role as a major regional and international aviation hub and to accommodate expanding air connectivity networks.
