The Campeonato Brasileiro (Brasileirão) resumed for its 29th round following a FIFA international break. The round features intense competition for both the championship title, led by Flamengo and Palmeiras, and the fight to avoid relegation involving clubs such as Internacional, Grêmio, and Remo. In the Rio de Janeiro derby, known as the ‘Clássico da Amizade’, Vasco da Gama defeated Botafogo 2-1 at the Nilton Santos Stadium. This victory marked Vasco’s fourth consecutive win of the season, moving them to 14th place with 34 points and increasing their distance from the relegation zone. Alan Lescano opened the scoring for Vasco in the 27th minute, followed by a second goal from David early in the second half. Botafogo’s lone goal came via a free kick by Alex Telles. The match was marked by several medical and disciplinary incidents. Vasco attacker Bruno Duarte was substituted after briefly losing consciousness following a collision. Additionally, Botafogo players Arthur Chaves and Vitinho required hospital transport for examinations following physical trauma to the abdomen and cervical area, respectively; both are reported to be in stable condition. Semi-automated technology played a significant role, disallowing two goals—one for each side—due to offside calls. On the sidelines, Botafogo manager Tite was sent off by referee Bruno Arleu de Araújo after entering the pitch to celebrate a disallowed goal. Following the match, Tite emphasized the need for greater composure and effectiveness in the final third, while Vasco captain Thiago Mendes praised the team’s collective work under manager Pedro Emanuel. Botafogo remains in 13th place with 35 points. Following this result, statistical models suggest Botafogo’s mathematical probability of relegation has increased.
