In late May 2026 the municipal government of Campo Grande approved a six‑month, R$5.3 million infrastructure program for the Jardim Centenário neighbourhood. The plan calls for asphalt paving of major streets, concrete‑block surfacing of side streets, more than 12,000 m² of accessible sidewalks and 232 m of drainage galleries, all intended to improve rain‑water flow, reduce flooding and enhance safety for residents. The event highlighted the challenges the city faces from extreme weather even as it implements the new drainage and paving works to mitigate future flood risks. Later that same day, Campo Grande announced the completion of a city‑wide LED street‑lighting upgrade, replacing 125,736 lamps with energy‑efficient LEDs. The modernization, carried out by the Municipal Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Services, is expected to cut electricity use by 30‑35%, generate municipal cost savings and support future smart‑city initiatives, further improving nighttime safety for residents. By early August 2026 the municipality confirmed that the LED overhaul had reached 100 % coverage, making Campo Grande the third Brazilian capital with a fully LED‑lit public‑lighting network. Officials highlighted the expected 30‑35 % reduction in electricity consumption, the resulting fiscal savings, and the new system’s capacity to enable automated monitoring and rapid fault detection, reinforcing the city’s broader push toward sustainable, resilient urban infrastructure.
