In early August 2026, the Fundação Municipal de Esportes (Funesp) extended the registration deadline for the 46th edition of the Open Games, allowing more teams to enter in several women's and men's disciplines and requiring each participant to donate one kilogram of non‑perishable food. Mayor Adriane Lopes met with the newly appointed president of Fecomércio MS, Juliano Wertheimer, to discuss a suite of development initiatives: revitalising the city centre, expanding professional‑training programmes, improving urban mobility, and advancing infrastructure such as a new convention centre, regional air links, and the first phase of the Horto Florestal renovation slated for completion by October. Throughout August, Campo Grande marked its 127th anniversary with a month‑long sports and leisure programme organised by Funesp, featuring a Sub‑20 futsal tournament, rhythmic gymnastics, fitness classes, a community run and the official launch of the 46th Jogos Abertos. The Games, set to begin on 17 August, will include basketball, futsal, handball and volleyball for men and women, with teams from companies, clubs, schools and cooperatives. The food‑donation requirement “social fee” of one kilogram of food generated 1,262 kg (about 1.2 tonnes) of non‑perishable items, donations, which will be directed to the city’s social‑assistance programmes, reinforcing the event’s focus on health, inclusion programmes that provide daily nutrition to families in need and community support. will also be used to select Campo Grande’s representatives for upcoming state‑level championships.
