Canada Rocket Company development
Overview
Canada Rocket Company (CRC) is advancing its development of the R-2, a medium-lift launch vehicle designed to carry up to 15,000 kilograms to low-Earth orbit using methalox propellant. The company is scheduled to begin hot-fire testing of engine components, specifically a gas generator for turbine ignition, in December 2026. This testing cycle is expected to continue until approximately 2028, with a target launch date around 2032.
To support these efforts, CRC announced plans to construct the Jeremy Hansen Test Facility in London, Ontario. This C$30 million project will serve as Canada’s first large-scale static rocket engine test site, featuring vertical and horizontal test stands capable of handling engines with more than 1 meganewton of thrust. The facility is expected to be operational by 2028.
CRC’s development is supported by C$8.3 million in government funding from the Department of National Defence’s IDEaS Program, part of a broader initiative to establish domestic launch capabilities in Canada.
