The Canadian professional wrestling industry is seeing growth through new talent initiatives and domestic promotions. Maple Leaf Pro (MLP) has emerged as a significant entity, providing domestic opportunities that previously required wrestlers to seek international exposure in the United States or Europe. MLP founder Scott D’Amore has detailed the promotion’s seasonal television model, noting that its recent 12-episode ‘Mayhem’ season aired on TSN and streamed via AEW’s MyAEW service. While the limited-series format allows for defined story arcs, D’Amore noted it presents creative challenges regarding wrestler development. To identify emerging talent, MLP utilizes social media monitoring and networking within regional circuits. The promotion aims to serve as a reputable platform to graduate performers to larger organizations such as WWE and AEW. Building on this model, MLP has announced that its sold-out pay-per-view event, ‘MLP Northern Rising,’ will be broadcast as a three-part television special. The series is scheduled to begin airing on October 14 on TSN, MyAEW, and Fight Nation. Held at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre, the event featured a Street Fight between Canadian legend Adam Copeland and Steve Maclin, as well as a match between AEW National Champion Andrade El Idolo and Rohan Raja. Following the event, Maclin stated the experience was a ‘childhood dream’ and that he proved to himself that he ‘belongs in the professional wrestling industry.’ Additionally, Mystery Wrestling has launched a talent booking initiative to facilitate international work for its roster, allowing promoters in Canada, the United States, and Europe to request specific Canadian performers.
