The Government of the Canary Islands has introduced several initiatives aimed at economic, strategic, and social development. To support the circular economy, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy launched ‘Circular Canarias’, a digital platform designed to centralize information and resources for public administrations, businesses, and citizens. This platform supports the Circular Economy Strategy 2021-2030 and the Circular Economy Action Plan 2024-2026. In terms of employment, the government is implementing an ‘Employment Accelerator’ pilot project with a three-million-euro investment. The program aims to create up to 170 jobs by providing four months of intensive training in high-demand sectors, including the blue economy, cybersecurity, the agri-food industry, water and energy, and artisanal trades. Participants who complete the training can enter two-year dual vocational training contracts, with participating companies committing to permanent employment upon successful completion. Additionally, the government has announced a housing initiative for younger residents. The ‘Youth Rental Bonus’ (Bono Alquiler Joven) 2026-2027, opening on September 18, provides up to 250 euros per month for up to 24 months, totaling a maximum benefit of 6,000 euros per person. This 12.87 million euro program targets individuals aged 18 to 35 and is funded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda alongside local contributions from Tenerife, Lanzarote, and La Graciosa. Expanding its economic outreach, the archipelago’s trade agency, Proexca, recently concluded a working mission in Japan to target the digital and video game sectors. Following meetings in Kyoto and participation in the Tokyo Game Show, the mission successfully generated interest from Japanese investors. A reverse mission is planned for October, with approximately ten Japanese companies expected to visit the islands to explore opportunities in video games, animation, microelectronics, and semiconductors. Alfonso Cabello, President of Proexca, noted the mission succeeded in opening markets by showcasing the islands' strategic position and specialized talent.
