Overview
Medical research has increasingly highlighted the cardiovascular risks faced by cancer patients, specifically regarding thrombosis.
An Israeli study involving over 180,000 adults found a significant link between cancer diagnoses and an increased risk of initial ischemic stroke. This risk is notably higher during the first few months following a diagnosis and varies by cancer type, with ischemic strokes estimated to affect roughly 10 percent of those living with cancer.
Subsequent international research presented at the Pan-European Cardiology Congress expanded on these findings. Data from the Arterial Cancer Associated Thrombosis program indicates that approximately 8 percent of cancer patients face risks of acute coronary events, such as myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke. When combined with a 10 percent risk of venous thrombosis, the study suggests that approximately one in five cancer patients may suffer some form of thrombosis. Researchers are now looking toward utilizing AI models to improve the prediction of high-risk patients.
