Owens later published a minute‑by‑minute chronology of security updates after the shooting, prompting Ben Shapiro to accuse her of defending the alleged assassin. Mid‑July she claimed Kirk was murdered after refusing a plot against her, a claim labeled a “fake investigation.” Internet jokes linked Senator JD Vance’s newborn to Erika Kirk; Erika later expressed sympathy for Tyler Robinson, the 23‑year‑old charged with Kirk’s killing, contrasting with Owens’ criticism.

On 20 July the JD Vance‑child jokes resurfaced online, while reports confirmed Erika Kirk’s courtroom meeting with Robinson and her expressed “overwhelming sadness.” On 28 July Owens released previously unseen rooftop footage from Utah Valley University showing a man moving across a rooftop before the shooting; she argued the individual did not match Robinson’s appearance or behavior. The video was amplified by conspiracy host Alex Jones, who declared the official narrative “collapsed.” No new legal actions have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
