The municipal government of Capaccio Paestum entered a period of political instability following a deadlock in the city council. Opposition Councilor Simona Corradino criticized this decision as “self-harming,” arguing that the administration was dismantling its own work and potentially wasting public funds spent on technical and environmental studies. The crisis culminated on August 24, 2026, when Mayor Gaetano Paolino was ousted after only 15 months in office. Nine city councilors signed a formal no-confidence act before a notary, leading to the early dissolution of the Municipal Council. Signatories, including Adele Renna, described the move as “suffered but necessary” following months of failed dialogue. The councilors cited grievances such as an “excessively centralized” management style, poor summer tourism programming, issues regarding the transformation of the Azienda Speciale Paestum, and the controversy surrounding the Municipal Urban Plan. Following the loss of the required quorum, the Prefect of Salerno, Francesco Esposito, ordered the immediate suspension of the council and initiated the formal dissolution process. Armando Gradone, a retired Prefect, has been appointed as the extraordinary commissioner to manage the municipality and ensure the continuity of essential services until the next elections in 2027.
