Capybaras from the nearby Parque das Águas have become a recurring presence inside the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly in Cuiabá. After the first reported entry on July 30, when a group of the rodents walked through the main entrance and briefly halted a voting session, staff guided them back toward the park without incident. The following day two capybaras were stopped at turnstiles in the reception hall and escorted out. Legislative staffer Nayara Bueno later recorded the July 30 incident, noting that the animals moved calmly through the building and caused no damage. The episode was widely shared on social media, adding another viral moment featuring Brazil’s largest living rodents. Officials observe that the capybaras appear almost daily, attracted to the lake and fountain in front of the assembly where they feed and wade, prompting reminders to the public not to feed or handle them. Subsequent reports confirm that the animals have repeatedly entered the chamber during voting sessions, but legislators report no disruption beyond the brief visits.
