Events in Italy continue to commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of Carlo Lorenzini, known as Carlo Collodi, the author of Pinocchio. A widespread exhibition titled ‘Carlo Lorenzini-Collodi 200: life and works of a Risorgimento intellectual’ is scheduled to take place across various Italian cities from September 2026 to December 2027. Coordinated by a national committee established by the Ministry of Culture at the request of the Carlo Collodi National Foundation, the project aims to present a comprehensive view of the writer, highlighting his roles as a journalist, humorist, and intellectual active during the Risorgimento era. In Florence, the Archivio Contemporaneo ‘Alessandro Bonsanti’ at Palazzo Corsini Suarez is hosting an exhibition titled ‘C’era una volta… Un Re! Carlo Lorenzini detto ‘Collodi’ tra satira, giornalismo e letteratura per l’infanzia’ through June 15, 2027. This display features the 1883 first edition of Pinocchio and an 1865 autograph signature. Other Florentine venues include the Biblioteca delle Oblate, Biblioteca Marucelliana, and Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze. Regional activities have expanded significantly. In Tuscany, Pistoia’s Biblioteca San Giorgio is hosting an exhibition by Simone Cioni exploring the connection between Dante and Pinocchio, while Pisa’s Museo di Palazzo Reale features a musical reinterpretation of the story. In Perosa Argentina, the LILIUM Art Gallery is hosting ‘Carissimo Pinocchio!’ from October 17 to 25, 2026. In the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, a large-scale reading marathon titled ‘Un libro lungo un giorno’ is scheduled for October 30, 2026. Part of the ‘LeggiAMO 0-18 FVG’ project, the initiative includes over 100 events such as readings, exhibitions, and podcasts. A central event at Miramare Castle in Trieste will feature illustrator Nicoletta Costa presenting ‘Il mio Pinocchio,’ a new volume with artwork and texts by Giusi Quarenghi, alongside an exhibition of more than 20 historical editions of Pinocchio.
