Following a period of consolidation and decline in late August, the Casablanca Stock Exchange showed mixed performance in early September. For the week of August 31 to September 4, the MASI index fell 0.73% to 18,792.25 points, despite the MASI 20 index increasing by 0.29%. Sectoral performance diverged sharply: engineering and industrial equipment (-10.73%), agricultural industry (-5.17%), and pharmaceuticals (-4.86%) saw significant declines, while real estate and hotel management (+2.52%), banking (+1.52%), and health (+1.17%) recorded gains. Despite the weekly dip, the MASI index gained 4.53% over the month of August, marking a return to positive momentum. Brokerage firm BKGR suggested this rebound might represent a “normalization following profit-taking” rather than a broad rally, noting that company-specific catalysts are increasingly driving performance. A notable trend was the surge in mining stocks, specifically Managem, which rose 31.16% in August to become the exchange’s largest company by market capitalization. By mid-September, the MASI index maintained upward movement, reaching approximately 18,811 to 18,836 points, with total market capitalization exceeding 1.1 trillion dirhams. Trading volumes remained robust, driven largely by Managem, Attijariwafa Bank, CFG Bank, and Marsa Maroc. On September 17, the exchange experienced a technical incident that temporarily suspended trading sessions. Following the resumption of activity, the MASI index underwent a sharp decline of 2.18%. This downturn was attributed to profit-taking and heavy losses within the agricultural and insurance sectors, although the mining sector remained a notable exception by showing slight gains. By late September, the Casablanca Stock Exchange faced a broader downward trend, with the MASI index down 5.32% since the start of the year. On September 25, 2026, the market continued its downward trend. The MASI index fell 0.29% to 17,818.09 points, and the MASI 20 index dropped 0.49% to 1,287.87 points.
