Catalan language promotion in Andorra

Overview

In Andorra, political tension emerged following reports that an automated parking system in Encamp used French instead of Catalan. Social Democratic Party member Clàudia Cunill criticized the municipal government, arguing that public administrations must respect official language laws by avoiding greetings such as ‘Bienvenue, prenez le ticket’ and ‘Bon voyage’.

In response to language-related concerns, the Government of Andorra, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, has initiated a campaign to promote the use of Catalan within the healthcare sector. The project, awarded to the company Comando with a budget of 24,035 euros, is intended to run through December 31, 2026, to encourage the use of the official language in medical environments.
