Political tensions have emerged in Catanzaro regarding the selection of a site for the city’s new hospital. The debate intensified following remarks by Filippo Mancuso, Vice President of the Regional Government, concerning the selection process. Bosco, President of the Catanzaro City Council, criticized these remarks, arguing they attempt to “delegitimize the Council’s authority.” Bosco maintained that the Council has already formalized its position through an official resolution and called for respect regarding the decision-making process between institutional representatives. Further disagreement exists within local factions; the Pugliese faction opposes relocating the facility to the Germaneto area, while supporters of the current site advocate for the maintenance and enhancement of the existing historical hospital to ensure continuity of care. Recent developments show City Council members reinforcing their opposition to the Germaneto proposal. Councilwoman Daniela Palaia emphasized that the Council has already reached a decision based on the “will of the citizens,” characterizing the Pugliese facility as a vital historical and social asset. The dispute continues to center on the conflict between technical feasibility and the necessity of respecting local democratic processes and institutional decisions. Local representatives continue to assert that maintaining the Pugliese site is essential for preserving the social and economic stability of the surrounding neighborhood, further heightening the friction between regional proposals and local administrative stances.
