Catholic Church family support initiatives in South America
Overview
Religious organizations across Venezuela, Argentina, and Ecuador have launched various initiatives aimed at providing spiritual guidance and social support to families.
In Venezuela, the Diocese of Carora and the Diocese of Acarigua-Araure have implemented the ‘Abrazo en Familia’ (Family Embrace) campaign. Led by local bishops, these programs seek to address affective and social wounds caused by ongoing crises through themes of forgiveness, reconciliation, and strengthening communication within households.
In Argentina, a ‘Family Encounter’ was organized in Buenos Aires to provide spiritual direction and prayer for domestic harmony. Meanwhile, in Ecuador, the Apostolic Vicariate of Puyo inaugurated the ‘Year of the Family,’ a program scheduled to run until June 2027. This Ecuadorian initiative focuses on challenges such as human mobility and digital transformation, aiming to establish pastoral groups in 22 parishes to offer workshops and accompaniment to all households.
