Catholic clergy peace protests in Rome

Overview

Members of the ‘Priests Against Genocide’ network, a group established in August 2025 comprising over 2,500 clergy members globally, conducted a peace march in Rome to protest the arms industry and demand an end to the conflict in Gaza and southern Lebanon.

Participants, including approximately 100 to 150 priests, friars, nuns, and a bishop, carried a shroud or banner listing the names of 300 Palestinian and Lebanese children reported killed during the war. The procession included prayer services at the Church of Santo Spirito in Sassia and in front of St. Peter’s Basilica, before moving toward the Palestinian and Lebanese embassies.

The demonstration concluded at the Rome headquarters of Leonardo SpA, a major European defense manufacturer, to protest its role in the arms sector and its supply of components used by the Israel Defense Forces. Organizers noted that the turnout for this demonstration was significantly larger than the previous year.
