Religious and academic institutions in Italy have held conferences focused on the intersection of artificial intelligence, ethics, and human dignity. At the Ai4Peace Global Biennial Symposium in Rome, participants discussed using AI for conflict prevention, human rights protection, and new governance models. In a message delivered by Don Andrea Ciucci, the Pope called for technological innovation to be transformed into “tools of peace” to foster dialogue and solidarity. Following this, the Diocese of Acireale and the Maria Barbagallo Foundation hosted a conference titled ‘The Magnificence of Human Dignity – Light of Conscience, Critical Spirit, and Artificial Intelligence’. Inspired by Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical ‘Magnifica Humanitas’, the event examined how AI impacts labor, communication, and democratic processes. Speakers emphasized the necessity of human autonomy and responsibility in managing technological transitions to shape society. In Sicily, these discussions expanded through various regional initiatives. In Catanzaro, the XII edition of the Città Solidale Prize centered on the theme ‘The future of AI is an ethical choice’, recognizing institutions such as the Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria for their research in AI ethics and telemedicine. Additionally, the Culturelite Festival in Palermo explored human challenges in a modern context, further integrating ethical considerations into the regional discourse on technology.
